Colorado River Ferry declarations, 1850 May 8-1850 June 8.

Five handwritten declarations made before Abel Stearns, Alcalde of Los Angeles, concerning a conflict at the ferry on the Colorado River near Yuma in 1850 between Yuma Indians and Americans which resulted in the killing of John Glanton, Able B. Lincoln, and others. The testimony is from William Carr, Jose Ygnacio Gomez Montenegro, Jeremiah Hill, Charles H. Veder, and D. Francisco Salido, and is dated between May 9, 1850 and June 8, 1850. Some declarations by survivors describe the attack on Glanton and his associates while other men relate their own experiences with the Yumas in the days following the incident. Typescripts are present of the declarations, and English translations are available for the two which are in Spanish.
